Navigating Water Licence Renewal: Securing Existing Abstraction Rights
A client’s water abstraction licence – essential to site operations – was due for renewal. With years of variable usage data to account for, there was a real risk the licensed volumes could be reduced.
We built an evidence-based case from seven years of abstraction data, justifying the full licensed volumes across all four authorised uses. The licence was renewed on the same terms, and we left the client with practical improvements to their data management, supporting compliance for years to come.
Groundwater Feasibility: Helping a Manufacturer Avoid Costly Drilling
A manufacturer exploring a new plant in the east of England wanted to know whether groundwater could replace mains water on site. The immediate ground was well understood, but the deeper geology needed to support a groundwater source had never been investigated.
Our feasibility study assessed the geology, hydrogeology and licensing potential, giving a clear percentage likelihood of a successful source. With both regulatory and ground constraints working against it, the client could see drilling was unlikely to pay off – sparing them the cost of exploratory work with little chance of success.
Avoiding a high-risk quarry investment through expert review
A company was on the verge of purchasing a quarry for industrial sand production — but something didn’t add up. They asked us to take an independent look before committing.
Our review uncovered a series of critical issues that had been missed, including permitted depth breaches, significant interburden, and material that simply didn’t meet specification. The site had no viable reserves of industrial sand whatsoever. We advised them not to proceed. Sometimes the most valuable thing an expert can do is tell you not to spend the money.
Restoring confidence in quarry planning and production
A high-output quarry was running out of viable blasting options, putting future production at risk. With limited internal resources and increasing constraints, it was becoming harder to plan ahead with confidence.
Through structured planning and ongoing support, we helped turn a short-term challenge into a long-term solution — unlocking over seven years of workable reserves and restoring confidence in the quarry’s future.
Turning geotechnical uncertainty into clear, cost-saving decisions
A quarry faced a growing geotechnical risk that could have forced them to buy expensive neighbouring land. By combining detailed mapping with expert analysis, we were able to clearly define the true extent of the risk – and where it stopped.
This gave the client the confidence to make a far more cost-effective decision, reducing unnecessary land purchase while keeping the site safe.
