About

Our history

Two decades of growing expertise across geology, geotechnics, surveying and hydrogeology.

Land and Minerals Consulting Ltd (LMCL) was established by Adrian Wilkinson in 2004 as a geological and geotechnical consultancy.

In 2006, the company adopted the trading name QuarryDesign®, strengthening its connection with the mineral planning consultancy Quarryplan Ltd.

LMCL expanded its capabilities further in 2010 with the development of a dedicated. surveying department, following the acquisition of its first long-range, high-resolution LiDAR scanner. In 2012, the company invested in its first aerial drone, and in 2013 introduced a second trading name, DroneSurv®, to better represent its growing aerial surveying services beyond the mining and quarrying sector.

Most recently, LMCL added Hydrogeology to its portfolio of specialist services at the end of 2024. The company continues to grow and expand its areas of expertise, building on over two decades of experience across geology, geotechnics, surveying, aerial mapping and hydrogeology.

LMCL have maintained their CAA permissions since 2013, following the issue from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of its first Air Navigation Order 2009 “Permission to conduct aerial work”) and hold the current “Operational Authorisation in the Specific Category” for Visual Line of Sight (VLOS) flights to 1km and Beyond Visual Line of Sight with Visual Mitigation(BVLOS-VM) flights to 2km. LMCL’s CAA registration number is 244 proving their early adoption of drone technology.
